​Course Description 

The qualification provides learners with a basic knowledge and understanding of health and safety in the workplace under UK health and safety legislation ensuring that the working environment is safe and healthy. 

Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for anyone who has recently started as an employee in a company. This course can form part of their induction as this gives the learner everything they need to know about workplace safety. 

Minimum Age

The qualification is available to learners who are aged 14 and over. ​

Course Validity

This qualification does not have an expiry date. It is strongly recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.

Classroom

Complete your full course face-to-face with one of our experienced trainers. Ideal if you prefer hands-on, practical learning in a group setting.

Blended Learning

Start with 1 day of self-guided e-learning at your own pace. Then join us for 1 day in the classroom to focus on practical skills and assessments.

Webinar

Join a tutor-led live webinar for 1 day of interactive online learning from home. Followed by 1 day in the classroom to complete your practical training and assessments.

Each option meets the same high standards and provides you with a fully accredited certificate.

Course Content

1. Understand the Importance of Health, Safety & Welfare in the workplace:

   - Understand the duties of employers and how they contribute to a healthy and safe workplace

   - Understand how employees contribute to a healthy and safe workplace. 

   - Outline suitable workplace welfare arrangements. 

2. Know how hazards and risks are controlled in the workplace:

   - Identify how hazards and risks contribute to workplace risk assessments

   - Discuss and state why its important for workers to follow procedures at work

   - Outline how to use methods for controlling risk in the workplace. 

3. Main causes and effects of poor health & safety at work):

   - Outline and discuss the main causes of workplace injury

   - Outline and discuss the main causes of workplace ill health 

   - Outline and discuss the reasons why accidents occur 

   - Outline, discuss and state the effects of accidents at work

   -  Discuss why we need to report accidents and near misses at work. ​

4. Understand how health & safety information is communicated in the workplace:

   - Identify main safety signs and signals in the workplace

   - List sources of H&S information found in the workplace

   - State the important of workers notifying health & safety concerns to their employer.
